Obsidian gave the first glimpse of gameplay for the Action-RPG Avowed. Based in the Pillar of Eternity universe.
Avowed First Gameplay Trailer; Launches in 2024
It’s been a few years since Avowed was unveiled during the Xbox Game Showcase in 2020. This year’s showcase unveiled the first look at gameplay, and a release window of 2024.
The trailer begins with a lone figure stepping off a ship, entering a battle with many swordsmen ready to engage. We also see the character equipped with double pistols for another fight. Swords, bows, and axes are shown. But dual-wieldingweaponsaren’t the only thing in the player’s arsenal. Avowed also gives players the ability to wield magic in first-person.
Magic and More
There seem to be different types of magic to cast. Conjure a flaming fireball? Check. Freezeenemiesin their place? Check. It seems you even have weapons that areimbued with magic. Whether this means casting first or if they’re magical, to begin with, isn’t known yet. The gameplay is reminiscent of Skyrim, being able to wield magic with one hand and using a melee weapon in the other.
We also get a look at a few of the enemies which seem quite varied. From giant bears to glowing red-eyed skeletons.Avowedlooks to have all the makings of a great adventure. The setting of Eora has a number of creatures to meet. According to the Xbox news post, there are even “sentient mushrooms”.
Not Adventuring Alone
Like in otherPillars of Eternity-based games, players will not be exploring alone. Avowed sets to bring a group ofCompanionsto join you on your adventure. The first introduced is actually the narrator of the trailer. Kai belongs to the CoastalAumauaand lives in the Living Lands. While he seems open to forging some sort of alliance, he warns that your powers are a bit scary.
Previously when Avowed was first revealed, there was a brief snippet of gameplay. But this fresh look at the game gives a much better look into the types of combat and magic in the game. We still see the same purple glowing magic from the first trailer, but it looks to have evolved a little. The use of orbs and even AOE-styled abilities look to provide more strategies to fight off deadly foes.
Avowedwill be released in 2024 coming to Xbox Series, PC via Windows 10/11 and Steam. You will also be able to pick it up on Xbox Game Pass/PC Game Pass on day one.
