The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomis merciless to the Master Sword. After being our personal pickaxe inBreath of the Wild, it immediately gets destroyed and then taken away by Zelda. Still, after the long journey to get it back restored to its original glory, is it truly restored all the way to itsBreath of the Wildstatus, unable to break, unlike other weapons? Or did Tears of the Kingdom take another approach because it hates us? Can the Master Sword break inZelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
Is the Master Sword still unbreakable inTears of the Kingdom?
Yes, it can’t break but it can run out of energy. If you try to use it during the first part of the game, you’ll find it runs out of energy. Not to worry, the Master Sword is still your handy dandy pickaxe. That is to say, it will still never break like inThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildprior. It still runs out of energy after a while, like last time, but it won’t break.
Hence, it can once more be used in place of sacrificing the durability of other weapons for mundane tasks or low health enemies all throughout the game. And since it is a sword type weapon, it can cut grass all day to look for bugs, or activate Brightbloom seeds, or so on. This allows your other weapons to stay unbroken as long as possible, unlike our dear Master Sword being broken in the first ten minutes of the game.

You can still use it as a weapon, of course. At least until it runs out of power, hopefully not in the middle of an important fight. But in a game of fire rods and Zonai-powered weapons, it can’t exactly do anything unique. Still, it’s not aZeldagame without the Master Sword, and it remains fitting it should be the only weapon that can’t truly break.
