Marvel Studios may have once again been shunned at the Oscars, but that doesn’t mean theAvengersdidn’t show face, asChris HemsworthandRobert Downey Jr. had their own mini-Marvel reunion at the event. As seen in photos shared by Hemsworth on his social media, the two stars and their wives had a “fun night out” last Sunday for the event – and Downey Jr. would feel that more than most after taking home his first Oscar as a result.
Marvel’s The Avengers
Hemsworth, who plays Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shared the images on Wednesday, showing the pair at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party. Along with an image of theMad Max: Furiosastar with his wife, Elsa Pataky, Downey Jr. and his wife, Susan, another image shared by ScreenTime really captures a special moment. The shot featured the former MCU collaborators sharing an embrace, showing that there is still a lot of love between the actors.
As two of the founding stars of Marvel’s sprawling universe, fans are always happy to see any kind of reunion, although an on-screen venture featuring Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark and Hemsworth’s god of thunder is increasingly unlikely – even though the multiverse storyline could allow for it to happen.

Downey Jr. departed the MCU in a blaze of glory inAvengers: Endgame, having defeated Thanos at the cost of his own life. For many, the franchise hit a peak that has been hard to follow, and led to much of the criticism that has plagued Phase 4 and 5 in the last few years.
What is Next for Chris Hemsworth’s Thor?
While Iron Man is gone from the MCU, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is still carrying the torch as one of the few original franchise characters left in the saga. As things move on, it is inevitable that the actors who have played roles for a decade or more need to move on too, both for their own career diversity and for the simple reason that they age out the parts they have made their own.
For Hemsworth, it looks like that time is drawing near. Recent rumors have suggested that despite the mostly negative reaction toThor: Love & Thunderin 2022,Thor 5is in development, and will likely bring the god of thunder’s time to an end in the franchise – or at least lead up to his departure at the end of the Multiverse Saga in 2027’sAvengers: Secret Wars.

Robert Downey Jr. Says His Opinion on Being Iron Man Changed: ‘It Wore Off’
While Robert Downey Jr. initially loved being associated with Iron Man, his feelings towards the role changed over time.
However, even as his Marvel journey moves towards its conclusion, Hemsworth is still very much in demand in Hollywood and will not be going anywhere quite yet. As well as a starring role in this year’sMad Max: Furiosa, he will also be providingthe voice of Optimus Prime in the animated movieTransformers: One, which is expected to be released next year. The actor was also rumored to be playing Hulk Hogan in a biopic of the flamboyant wrestler’s life, but for now that project seems to have hit the mat.

MCU fans can find all of Thor and Iron Man’s appearances as part of the Disney+ Marvel Studios catalogue.
