Matt Ryan returns asConstantinein the latestLegends of Tomorrowtrailer. The CW has been home to a lot of DC Comics TV shows, and has been providing fans with a lot of exciting crossover events in recent years. Now, the network is bringing back Ryan, who has become a fan-favorite staple of the DC universe on the small screen, for the latest episode ofLegends of Tomorrow. This trailer reveals Constantine’s return in what looks to be an action-packed episode of the DC series.
The newLegends of Tomorrowtrailer is brief, but we do get a few seconds ofMatt Ryan as John Constantinetoward the end. There’s also a lot of action and fighting packed into the brief promo. Constantine is going to have his hands full. This isn’t the first time that John Constantine, a demon hunter and master of the occult, has showed up in the CW’s Arrowverse. He’s also made appearances onArrowand previous episodes ofLegends of Tomorrow. Somehow, Ryan has made the most out of this character who originally looked like it was going to be a bust after starring in theConstantineseries on NBC that was canceled after just one season.
In the upcomingLegends of Tomorrowepisode, which is titledNecromancing The Stone, Mallus' power over Sara (Caity Lotz) resurfaces and she unwittingly becomes the bearer of one of the four Totems that the team has been keeping safe. Rory (Dominic Purcell) must conquer his dark side to wield his own Totem power to help save the crew. Meanwhile, Agent Sharp (Jes Macallan) notices that something is wrong and recruits someone unorthodox to help. That someone is Constantine and, unorthodox or not, he’s a powerful man to have on your side.
The journey for Matt Ryan within the DC universe has been a strange one. It’s not often that a character an actor played on a series that lasted a single season goes on to become his calling card, but that’s what happened with Ryan andConstantine. In addition to hisArrowverse appearanceson The CW, he also voiced the character in theJustice League Darkanimated movie. He’s also set to reprise the role on a more consistent basis in theConstantine animated seriesthat’s going to be making its way to CW Seed, which comes from Greg Berlanti and David S. Goyer.
This upcomingConstantineanimated series could provide room for further crossovers down the road, be it other Arrowverse actors lending their voices for that series, or Matt Ryan coming back on another live-action series. Either way, the character has plenty of life left on the small screen and is coming back very soon. DC’sLegends of Tomorrowreturns on The CW on Monday, March 19.
