Death Stranding 2 Unveils a New Preview
One of the most anticipated games of 2025 is just around the corner. It’s none other thanDeath Stranding 2: On the Beach, the latest title from Hideo Kojima and his team at Kojima Productions, launching on PS5 on June 26.
We already got a glimpse of a new sequence during the June 4 State of Play, and now the long-awaited sequel has taken center stage at the Summer Game Fest 2025 alongside host Geoff Keighley.
Hideo Kojima kicked off the presentation with a brand-new gameplay trailer forDeath Stranding 2, as part of an extended showcase held at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. Joining Kojima and his friend Geoff were Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, Woodkid, and Troy Baker.
A First Look at Gameplay and Key Moments
Beyond the new story details revealed by the Japanese auteur, the gameplay trailer left us with some unforgettable visuals, including a battle against Neil — a character strongly reminiscent of Solid Snake.
The opening minutes ofDeath Stranding 2were also shown, and the sequel includes a recap of the events from the original game for newcomers. It has also been confirmed that Woodkid is contributing to the game’s music production.
Remember that the game will be available two days early — starting June 24 — thanks to the 48-hour early access included with the Deluxe and Collector’s Editions.
New Characters and Expanding Storylines
The sequel once again stars Sam Porter Bridges, played by Norman Reedus, who journeys through a dystopian and apocalyptic version of Australia (and other parts of the world) alongside Fragile and other characters in a mission to save humanity.
Kojima has revealed new story elements, rooted in never-before-seen moral dilemmas that promise to challenge our convictions more than once.
Death Stranding 2introduces several new characters, including Tomorrow (played by Elle Fanning), Rainy (Shioli Kutsuna), and the enigmatic Neil (Luca Marinelli).
The gameplay shows Tomorrow using her mysterious powers against mechanical soldiers, Rainy’s introduction, and even an epic battle against Neil that promises maximum excitement for fans.
Gameplay Innovations and Asynchronous Multiplayer
In terms of gameplay,Death Stranding 2features larger, more open environments than the original, along with multiple combat approaches: aggressive, stealthy, or evasive. Players can choose how they want to experience the adventure.
Asynchronous multiplayer makes a return in this sequel, now with enhanced social features that can influence the course of the story. We’re eager to try out this mode — and good news, it doesn’t require PS Plus. By the way, the game’s file size on PS5 has already been leaked.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beachis one of PS5’s major exclusives of 2025. It’s set to release on June 26 in both physical and digital formats. Without a doubt, it’s one of the summer’s biggest blockbusters, poised to shake up the industry between June and September.
