Dino Topia hits the stores around August 2025, but what is it exactly? The game is attached to several categories like casual, farming simulation, top-down shooter, crafting, co-op, and more.

That’s a lot of genres, but that’s the deal with most games right now – mixing them all up to add more depth to the game. We tried Dino Topia’s demo in July, and here are our early thoughts on the Dinosaur farming game.

Dino Topia Has So Much Going On, but in a Good Way

My first hour playing the game was a bit of a rollercoaster as I didn’t know what to expect and saw everything. I thought it was a roguelike at first, seeing as how I was pushing through stages with a character using skills and getting random buffs on every level until I hit the boss.

The boss immediately sends you to your home base, where you’ll start to gather, craft, and build like a survival-crafting game. Once you get your hatchery, you’ll notice that you’ll also hatch some eggs and get all sorts of different dinosaurs with different types, stats, abilities, and talents.

At this point, I was already hooked on the game, with its base building, crafting, and creature collecting being a fun combination of genres. This is what separated Palworld from Pokémon, which improved on the genre by incorporating more elements, and Dino Topia aims to do just that.

I wanted to get more eggs, hatch more of them, and build my own Jurassic Park. To get more eggs, you need to adventure through four different stages with various difficulties. Each stage poses a different challenge with different enemies, bosses, and blessings (stage modifiers).

Most stages give you loot for enhancing your dinosaurs, crafting more buildings, and even getting currency. Seems simple enough, but the stages get chaotic really fast, as if you are playing a bullet hell game.

This is where you want to focus on getting stronger dinos to accompany you in battle while making your character stronger.

The game strikes an unusual balance between its roguelike exploration and farming simulation (base-building) features, giving you tons of content to enjoy. You design your own base, hatch and nurture your dinos, make them work, and automate your resource farming, empower your character and dinos to explore more stages.

Dino Topia is surely looking like a surprise indie hit that could take over Q3 of 2025!
