It’s no secret thatMoanawas one of the key films in the Disney Revival era, thanks to its stunning animation and fantastic soundtrack, as well as arguably one of the studio’s best-ever protagonists at its helm. So a sequel was inevitable, and the resultingMoana 2was an almost instant box-office smash when it hit theaters last Thanksgiving.

Set three years after the original, the story finds Moana and Maui on a quest to find the lost island of Motufetu and reconnect its people to the ocean. Admittedly, the absence of Lin-Manuel Miranda as the lead songwriter is felt, as the tunes don’t live up to those in the original, but the title character is still immensely likable, and the animation is as good as ever.Moana 2hit Disney+ in March 2025, but it’s still a perfect choice if your child is feeling the call of the ocean.
