Review: Frostpunk 2
We do what we must for the greater good.
The simulator expanded on its predecessor’s concepts, allowing players to build a larger city and demanding more contact with the citizens. As multiple factions and communities are born within the city, it’ll be necessary to negotiate with their representatives to gain alliances and make big changes. Depending on player choice, it may cause discontent among other groups, making it important to think things out carefully.
One of its biggest additions was a sandbox mode called Utopia Builder, as the original title was strictly focused on Story Mode. Thanks to this alternate mode, players can keep struggling indefinitely to survive the odds and deal with all the social and infrastructure issues that come with it.

For the console edition, the company has reworked the control scheme for gamepads, adding quick access options for actions that are essential in the gameplay to make it a more intuitive experience. These changes include a dynamic radial menu that shows specific actions for each resource pile and the use of bumper buttons to cycle between similar districts. The controller support and these updates to the user interface will be available on PC as well following the console release.

The Physical Options for Console Players
For the console edition of Frostpunk 2, 11 Bit Studios partnered up with Skybound Games, which also helped them make a PC physical edition. As part of their collaboration, there will be two premium physical editions and both will be available along with the digital release on September 18.
The first option is the Icebreaker Edition, which includes the physical copy of the game for either console and a few goodies. The extras for this specific version of the game are a pop-up diorama of the city of New London, which is the main setting for Frostpunk 2, and a download code for both the artbook and a digital novella called Warm Flesh. The digital additions were also previously available on PC.

The Whiteout Edition is a considerably richer option, however. Not only does it include everything in the Icebreaker Edition, but also an embroided faction patch from either the Icebloods or Technocrats, a keychain, two postcards, stickers, a multi-layered shadowbox, and a Deluxe Edition upgrade. With this, players will also have access to three upcoming DLCs.
