Giancarlo Espositohas a catalog of chilling characters in his acting roster, having famously starred as Gus Fring inBreaking BadandBetter Call Saul, Moff Gideon inThe Mandalorian, and Stan Edgar inThe Boys. He also recently made his MCU debut as Sidewinder inCaptain America: Brave New World, but it seems like he isn’t quite done with his evil escapades (or superheroes for that matter), as he has now expressed interest in joining James Gunn’s DCU in another villainous role – and he knows exactly who he wants to play.
Speaking to IGN at FanExpo Cleveland, Esposito revealed that he would like to join the DCU as the iconic Batman villain Mr. Freeze. The Caped Crusader’s frosty foe was notably played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1997 movieBatman & Robin, but the character’s focus on ice-related puns and throwaway one-liners made the portrayal not nearly as dark as other versions of the character from comic books and animated projects. After that, the supervillain was put on ice and hasn’t been seen in live-action on the big screen ever since.

The Best Major Villains From Batman Movies, Ranked
With a rogues' gallery as amazing as Batman’s, these are the villains that are the best at being bad.
While Esposito might be the perfect candidate to thaw out a diabolical villain such as Mr. Freeze, his schedule is likely to stay booked and busy, as he has only just made his MCU debut as the Serpent Society’s Seth Voelker aka Sidewinder –a role that changed for himwhenCaptain America: Brave New Worldwent through its creative overhaul. It doesn’t look like he is a one-off nemesis, either. The ending of the movie sets up the character’s return, and Esposito has already shared his hopes of playing in the Marvel universe “a little longer.”

Giancarlo Esposito’s Dream DC Role Is One He’s Been Fan-Cast in for Years
The idea of Esposito playing Mr. Freeze is certainly not a new one, as fans have been campaigning for the actorto portray the long-time Gotham roguefor years. This particular fan-cast went viral on social media in 2020 when people started sharing photoshopped images of Esposito wearing Mr. Freeze’s gear to imagine what he would look like in the role. Some people also taggedThe Batmandirector Matt Reeves to try and bring his attention to the potential casting choice ahead of his reboot, featuring Robert Pattinson as The Dark Knight.
While Mr. Freeze didn’t make it into the rogues' gallery forThe Batman, there is every chance that he could show up in the sequel, as the rumor mill has frequently churned out his name. The follow-up film, which is currently untitled, is expected to have a winter setting, which would make Mr. Freeze a fitting choice as the antagonist. His involvement would also satisfy a lot of fans, asthousands elected the chilly villainas Gotham’s next terrorizer shortly afterThe Batmanarrived in theaters in 2022, and it appears that no one — including Esposito himself — has turned cold to the suggestion.
