Vanguard characters are the tank class inMarvel Rivals, and each one allows players to utilize a different playstyle. If you are looking for a more defensive tank, Doctor Strange and Magneto excel at protecting the team. Captain America, Peni Parker, and Hulk are all very good at causing chaos when the enemy groups up. Venom is another good tank that can cause a significant amount of pain for the enemy team. He is amazing at jumping directly into the enemy team and shattering their defensive holds on objectives.

How to Play as Captain America in Marvel Rivals

Charging into battle, Captain America is sure to draw enemy fire and protect his team.

Venom’s Abilities

Being able to swing behind enemy lines and wreak havoc is Venom’s specialty.

Venom’s abilities all enable him to have some great mobility despite his slow walking speed. He can get into fights quickly, deal damage and push enemies back, and then quickly disengage to heal back up to repeat the process.

How to Utilize Venom’s Abilities

Be aggressive, but you must know when to disengage from fights.

The suggested combo for Venom in his abilities tab that you can find in his Hero Profile is the best spot to get started when learning how to play Venom. The suggestion is to enter into battle withVenom Swingand when positioned in the air you can land into the enemy team withFrenzied Arrival. After slamming into the ground, you’ll useCellular Corrosionto slow the enemy and deal damage to those who can’t escape. UsingDark Predation, you’ll pick your high-priority targets within the fight to take them out of the skirmish.

The suggested combo for heroes is a means to learn how the characters play and allows you to learn their kit a little faster. Venom is a very aggressive tank and while he will struggle to be a solo tank, it is possible as long as your team can back you up while you create space and confusion among the enemy team. Another thing you’ll need to keep in mind is thatVenom Swingis both your way to engage and disengage from combat. When you engage and if you end up taking too much damage from the enemy, even after usingSymbiotic Resilience, you’ll want to swing away and get yourself to safety.

Marvel Rivals Captain America

Venom’s ultimate ability,Feast of the Abyss, is also a very strong tool to use while in combat. You’ll want to engage and use your abilities to deal as much damage as possible immediately, while also making sure you useSymbiotic Resiliencewhen low on health. If Feast of the Abyss is available, you can also use this to gain some extra armor/bonus health to survive the fight. This ultimate is great to make sure you can stay in the fight when Symbiotic Resilience is on cooldown when there are still enemies around the objective. It’s a fantastic tool to deal damage, secure objectives, and buy time for healers to help you gain some health back.

Unlike Jeff the Land Shark’s ultimate ability, Venom’s Feast of the Abyss ability does not make him briefly invulnerable. Venom can still be killed while using his ultimate, so make sure you don’t use it below a certain health threshold.

Marvel Rivals Emote

How to Equip, Use Emotes in Marvel Rivals

Emoting at other players is a tried-and-true tradition of any multiplayer game, and Marvel Rivals is no different.

Venom Tips and Tricks

While the suggested combo covers the basics with Venom, there is still more to know.

While it isn’t immediately obvious when playing Venom, it should be noted that he can land critical hits with headshots with his primary attack.Dark Predationdoes decent enough damage without critical hits, but when getting headshots with it, you can deal some truly devastating damage to enemies. This can do anything from taking out a damage dealer with low health to pushing healers out of the fight for a few moments. Landing those critical hits isn’t going to be completely necessary, but it will still be something you may want to consider practicing with to take your Venom gameplay to another level.

Like the rest of the cast in Marvel Rivals, Venom does have a melee attack that can be very helpful. This melee attack is a set of three hits that can combo with each other to deal some minor damage to enemies. What you’ll want to consider using it for though is something that might be unexpected with the primary attack. When using Dark Predation on enemies, there is a brief period where the attack cannot be used, just a very minor cooldown like most attacks within the game. During this extremely short period, you can use a melee attack to min/max Venom’s damage, ensuring that anyone close to him is going to be constantly taking damage if they don’t leave the fight.

Marvel Rivals Venom suggested combo

Venom’s suggested combo is also usable throughout team fights, like most characters. you’re able to use this often, off of cooldown, and really lean into how annoying you want to be as this tank. Just when you are getting healed up in the middle of a fight, you canVenom Swingagain to slam into the ground and force enemies to judge whether a prolonged fight is worth it or not. His aggressive style, ability to land critical hits, and ways to gain temporary health are all great for overturning losing fights.

While there are several characters similar to Venom in being fast-paced and aggressive tanks, he is somewhat alone in how he can accomplish this. He puts on the pressure and can escape in a heartbeat before a killing blow to him can be dealt. Venom is easy to learn with plenty of room to keep getting better and learning how to adapt to new scenarios. The ability to wall crawl isn’t overly useful right away, but after some time on Venom, you can also see how he’s capable of setting up ambushes for enemies looking to push back. Pairing Venom with Spider-Man or Peni Parker also gives Venom some extra health while also giving them some extra abilities to use in their combos.
