‘Rust’ Receives Warm Reception Following Long-Awaited Debut

Despite a fatal accident causing intense controversy, ‘Rust’ opened in Poland as a celebration of Halyna Hutchins’s legacy.

Mason will honor her friend and colleague Halyna Hutchins in the documentary that will explore the legacy of the cinematographer who tragically passed away during the production ofRust. The director will try to unveil the truth of what happened on the set, while also featuring Hutchins' work in films likeDarlin’andArchenemy. Nevertheless, from the trailer we can assume that the film was developed from a true crime perspective and will feature real footage taken at the crime scene, as well as testimonies from those who were on the set on the fateful day.

Alec Baldwin Is Also Telling His Side of the Story

TheRustshooting incident took place on June 18, 2025, with Hutchins being killed and director Joel Souza being injured during a rehearsal for the Western thrillerRust. Actor and producer Alec Baldwin was manipulating aprop revolver that Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer in charge of props, failed to check. The incident occurred during a rehearsal and not during the shooting of the scene in question. The following investigation and trial focused on Baldwin and Reed, and thoughthe actor’s charges were dismissed, Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. She’s currently serving an 18-month prison sentence. Baldwin was last seen in court filing a civil rights lawsuit against New Mexico for wrongful prosecution.

Baldwin has now entered the realm of reality TV,with new seriesThe Baldwinshaving recently premiered on TLC.The Baldwinsshows Baldwin’s family in the aftermath of the trial. Only two episodes (of eight in total) have aired, but the reviews are not good. While the show aims to explose the dynamics of the family, and is all done with a certain degree of authenticit, critics on Rotten Tomatoes have shown their disdain for the reality series and have called it a “pity party” and a dark and bizarre reality show.

Even though he previously stated that he wants to leave behind everything regardingRust, Baldwin will always be associated with Hutchins' accidental death. There’s no questioning the impact the event had on his career, with the actor hoping to gradually return to acting following the release of his reality TV series.
