Among the many incredible characters of the DC comic realm, the character of Harley Quinn is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated and iconic ones in the DC Universe. The character was initially introduced as a supporting character in the Batman series, but eventually, the character gained popularity among the fans due to her unique characteristics. Quinn’s character has been brought to life in two notable ways.

Kaley Cuoco voiced an R-rated version of the antihero in DC’s animated seriesHarley Quinn,while Margot Robbie portrayed her in the DCEU films. Looking at Robbie’s impeccable acting skills, it has often been speculated that the character of Quinn was written keeping Robbie in mind. However, that cannot be possible but one thing is for sure the character of Harley Quinn will always remain close to Robbie’s heart. Hence when DC was going to launch the reprised animated version of Quinn, Robbie was inquisitive to know about every detail.
Margot Robbie’s curiosity sparks anticipation for reprised Harley Quinn
Throughout her career,Margot Robbiehas appeared in many iconic roles, and one of her most celebrated roles is of DC comic character Harley Quinn. Robbie is renowned for portraying the character of the Clown Princess of Crime. It is undeniable that the actress has put in all her effort to bring the character of Harley Quinn to life.
That’s the reason why Robbie feels so connected with the character. When DC decided to launch the animated version of Harley Quinn, Robbie got curious to know about the reprised version of the character. During a conversation with the showrunner Justin Halpern, Robbie interviewed him about the project. During an interview, Halpern revealed his conversation with Robbie. He said,

“Margot was interested in what we were doing and we had a couple of conversations with her, but it was mostly because she was curious because they were concurrently doing Birds of Prey. So we met with her, we pitched out a few episodes to her and our general arc and she was very thoughtful and kind and just listened and that was kind of it. It wasn’t like she said no and then we went to Kaley, Margot just wanted to be informed.”

Since Robbie has an attachment to the character, she wanted to make sure that her version of the character and the animated version do not share too many similarities, and adhere to their own unique style. The actress emphasized that both stories must have their own special place without repeating things. Halpern recalled,
“I remember in one meeting, Margot turned to Geoff Johns and was like ‘Is this similar to what we’re doing?’ and Geoff was like ‘Trust me, this is way way different tonally than what you’re doing,’ and that was that. And I have to imagine he was right. I haven’t seen BoP, but I’m guessing it’s not as overtly comedic as our show.”‘

Robbie made her debut as Harley Quinn in the 2016 filmSuicide Squad. While the animated version was released in 2019.

Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn was different from the animated one
The renowned DC comic character, Harley Quinn is a chaotic figure who is known for her unique characteristics. The character which emerged as a supporting character soon gained its supremacy in the franchise and is today one of the most beloved characters of the DC Universe. The character of Harley Quinn has been brought to life twice in two distinct ways.
Initially, the role was played by Margot Robbie who undoubtedly aced it. Whereas, the second time the animated version of Quinn was voiced by Kaley Cuoco. Both versions of the character were well acclaimed by the critics. Even after being the portrayal of the same character, both versions of Harley Quinn have their own unique identity.
While Robbie’s portrayal focused on the character development of Harley Quinn, Cuoco’s version embraced a more irreverent and humor-driven approach. Irrespective of their differences, both versions firmly captured, the essence of Harley Quinn’s iconic characteristics.
