After recalling his time working on the series, Goggins claimed in an interview with theIndependent:

“I have very strong opinions about it, and I’m not gonna throw HBO under the bus. But I think it is criminal that the contributions from Danny McBride and Jody Hill and [director] David Gordon Green in comedy and television have never been recognized by any formal institution. I think that is almost unforgivable really – and laughable, at this point. They’ve fundamentally changed the f***ing landscape of what a comedy could be.”

AlthoughDanny McBridehas carved out a fairly recognizable place for himself in the industry, the actor has remained largely barred to side characters with barely memorable arcs. Walton Goggins, on the other hand, evolves with every role he’s given and leaves an indelible mark in the industry wherever he happens to end up.
