The 1994 action-comedy movieTrue Lieswill soon get the small screen treatment, as a TV series adaptation is in the works. Developed by McG, the series will be a part of Disney’s upcoming Disney+ streaming service. In a recent interview, McG confirmed the new series, noting he is very involved in its creative process.
“I’m writing that one, which is very exciting, because I’m so passionate about that story where you think you know your partner but you don’t,” McG clarifies. Better yet, the movie’s director James Cameron is fully on board after hearing about what McG is planning to do with the property.
At this point, it’s not entirely clear if the show will be set in the same universe as the original movie or if it will be a complete reboot. When asked aboutArnold Schwarzeneggerpossibly appearing on the show, McG says there have been discussions about it, but that the series will be “largely rebooted.” Presumably, if there’s a way to creatively work Schwarzenegger or any other stars of the movie into the TV series, it could be seen as a sequel. For now, because McG is still writing the show and it’s in the very early stages, it remains to be seen if the two properties will be officially linked in terms of storyline.

The closest the sequel ever came to happening following this was in the Tom Arnold comedyThe Kid & I, featuring Arnold playing a fictional actor based on himself. The plot of the movie actually focuses on the fictional development ofTrue Lies 2, and it even features cameos from Schwarzenegger and Curtis.
