Following two half-siblings with polar opposite personalities investigating the murder of their father,The Wrecking Crewwas born fromthe stars' desire to make aLethal Weapon-esque filmthat takes place in Hawaii.
According toThe Hollywood Reporter,Deadpooltrilogy star Morena Baccarinis joining Momoa and Bautista in the buddy cop action flick, aptly titledThe Wrecking Crew. Baccarin most recently had a minor role inDeadpool & Wolverineas Vanessa,the main love interest to Wade Wilson, played by Ryan Reynolds. Expect her to have more to do inThe Wrecking Crew, which is set to film in New Zealand later this year. She joins the cast as the girlfriend of the “loose cannon” cop played by Jason Momoa. The official synopsis:

“The Wrecking Crew follows two half-brothers — one a loose cannon cop (Momoa) and the other a disciplined Navy SEAL (Bautista). After 20-odd years of bad blood, they must work together to unravel the conspiracy behind their father’s murder in Hawaii.”

Momoa has alreadyteased his return as Duncan Idaho inDune 3, butThe Wrecking Crewappears to be his next project, which he saidcame to fruition via text message in 2021, days after Bautista’s post.
“He literally texted me four days ago, going, ‘We need to do a buddy cop film. We love each other. We are onSeeandDunetogether.’ And I said, ‘Absolutely.’ And he said, ‘Let’s do it in Hawaii.’ And I said, ‘Let’s do it. I have an idea.’ So it’s off to the races now. We’re doing it.”
The Wrecking Crewdoes not have a theatrical release date, but it is expected to hit theaters in 2025.
