Earlier today, LucasFilm, Twitter and People teamed up for a live-streamedTwitter Q&Awith directorGareth Edwardsand the full cast. This live event also included the debut of a new clip, and in case you missed it, we have this latest footage for your to check out. This scene features Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and the new droid K-2SO (Alan Tudyk).
The clip surfaced onYouTubeshortly after the Q&A, which begins with CaptainCassian Andorgrilling Jyn Erso about her blaster, as K-2SO asks why she gets one and he doesn’t. When Cassian asks her to hand over the weapon, Jyn states that they’re going to Jedha, which is a “war zone,” inferring that she’ll certainly need the gun to survive. Jyn asks Cassian to trust her, which he does for the time being, although K-2SO points out that the odds of Erso using that blaster against him are very high.
This footage comes just days afterFelicity Jonesdebuted thefirst cliponThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. That scene seemingly came after this clip in terms of the movie’s storyline, and showed Jyn Erso using both her blaster, and a telescopic baton to take out a number of Stormtroopers, which grabs Cassian Andor by surprise. That clip ended on a humorous note, with Jyn quickly turning around to shoot a droid that looks just like K-2SO, although we find out seconds later that it was a different droid.
We reported earlier this week that the summer reshoots resulted in a new ending, which new writerTony Gilroyhelped put together. The writer served as the second unit director during the reshoots and helped supervise the editing process in post-production. This increased role coming with a much bigger payday. While the writer was supposed to earn $200,000 a week for his work on the script, his increased role on set and in the editing bay lead to his compensation ballooning to $5 million, when all was said and done.
Box office analysts are predicting a $130 million opening weekend forRogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is far below the $247.9 million record-breaking debut ofStar Wars: The Force Awakens. This spin-off represents a brand new era of stories for LucasFilm, with the movie not even including anopening crawl. We learned this week that, instead of an opening crawl, directorGareth Edwardswill open his story with a prologue set 15 years before the events of this movie, taking place betweenRevenge of the SithandA New Hope.
