Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Set To Arrive In 2025
RGG Summit 2024, Ryu Ga Gotoku’s digital event to announce major news about theYakuza/Like a Dragonsaga. Besides discussing theLike a Dragon series on Prime Videoand the Yakuza Kiwami port for Nintendo Switch, Sega’s studio had a surprise in store.
None other than the new game in theLike a Dragonsaga, continuing the events ofInfinite Wealth, the game released in January 2024 chronologically. However, it isNOTa mainline entry, meaning it’s not Like aDragon/Yakuza 9.
Its title isLike a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and we can say it’s a spin-off on a scale similar to The Man Who Erased His Name.
It’s being developed byRyu Ga Gotoku Studio, and it stands apart from the rest of the saga as the first one solely starringGoro Majima.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaiiwill be released on August 19, 2025, and will be available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
Goro Majima and His Pirate Adventure
Unlike Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Pirate Yakuza in Hawaiiis an action-adventure game with hack-and-slash elements and some RPG mechanics. It also includes some management mechanics similar toAssassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
The game is centered aroundGoro Majima, who, after the events ofInfinite Wealth, ends up on a deserted island. Soon, we’ll face a dangerous group of pirates and discover a young man who will eventually become our greatest ally.
Players will travel across various locations, from Hawaii itself, seen inInfinite Wealth, toRich Island, the game’s initial setting, andMadlantis, a ship graveyard.
ProducerRyosuke Horiihad this to say about the game: “For the first time, Goro Majima is the sole protagonist of this game. The battle design is very different. It’s fast-paced and has many of Majima’s unique characteristics. That’s what we were aiming for.”
In terms of combat mechanics,Pirate Yakuza in Hawaiistands out for allowing jumping during battles, and players can choose between two combat styles (Mad Dog and Sea Dog), depending on whether they want to fight like a yakuza or a pirate.
Additionally, the game includes mini-games likeCrazy Delivery,Dragon Kart,Outfits, andKaraoke, along with live-action content (Masura’s Love Journey) as a side activity.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaiiis currently in development byRGG Studioand will be published by Sega on July 18, 2025, for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. More details are expected to be revealed atTokyo Game Show 2024, which starts on September 26.
