In this video, we will be taking a look at an upcoming action RPG game that has been anticipated by a lot of people for a very long time, and that is“Lost Soul Aside.”
The game was first revealed back in July of 2016, almost a decade ago, and started off as a one-man project by solo developerYang Bing, using Unreal Engine 4.

Since then, it has evolved—from a solo project into the first AAA title of the new studioUltizero Games, with the original developer now serving as founder and CEO.
It has also become a major Sony-published title under the“China Hero Project.”

WHAT IS LOST SOUL ASIDE?
STORY AND SETTING
So what exactly isLost Soul Aside? It’s a single-player action-adventure role-playing game blending fast-paced, combo-driven hack-and-slash combat with exploration and character progression—promising a unique experience following the main protagonist,Kazer.
“Embark on an epic odyssey to save your younger sister and the whole of humanity, from mysterious dimensional invaders from beyond the starlit skies,”reads the official synopsis on Steam.

From the trailers, we can see that we’ll be traveling through multiple environments—ranging from ancient ruins and modern cities to technologically advanced structures.
I think this is a great choice for the setting because it doesn’t limit the title to a specific theme or tone, allowing for a wider range of locales to visit and explore.

On our journey, Kazer will be joined by a powerful, shape-shifting interdimensional dragon namedArena—a companion who fuses with the hero and also functions as the various weapons we’ll use in combat.
The characters and premise are highly reminiscent ofFinal Fantasygames, and the lead developer, Yang Bing, has openly stated that he’s a hugeFinal Fantasyfan. He chose the art style not because it’s popular, but because it genuinely reflects the kind of visuals he personally enjoys.

The combat inLost Soul Asidelooks fast-paced, with Kazer executing stylish combos using spells and different weapon types. In the trailers released so far, we can seeArenatransforming into a variety of weapons—from longswords and greatswords to claws—as Kazer seamlessly switches between them during battle.
We can also clearly see Kazer performingparries, perfect dodges, andaerial evasions, dodging screen-filling attacks during boss fights.
Games likeBerserker: Khazanhave already shown that a Souls-like doesn’t have to limit itself to slow, methodical combat. Sekiro and Wo Longhave demonstrated that stamina systems aren’t necessary to deliver satisfying action.
WhileLost Soul Asideis listed as an action RPG, based on all the footage, it doesn’t seem to follow the traditional stamina mechanics of Souls-likes. Instead, it leans more toward games likeDevil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden—fast-paced, stylish, and action-heavy, yet still challenging.
In various interviews, Yang—now the head of Ultizero Games—has said that he plays a lot of action games and wanted to ensure the combat felt responsive.
He emphasized that the animations and gameplay needed to meet the expectations of genre fans.
He also promised a smooth gameplay experience, both in combat and environmental interaction. The team prioritized immediate input response to ensure quick, precise, and fluid control of Kazer throughout the game.
Customization
In addition to its intense combat,Lost Soul Asidewill also feature RPG mechanics that let players level up Kazer, unlock new abilities, improve stats, and discover new weapon forms forArena, each with a unique playstyle.
Beyond transforming into different weapons, Arena has also been shown creatingshields to block attacks, and helping Kazerglide through the airafter a double jump. These skills hint at a deeper ability system.
While we haven’t seen the full details yet, the game’s Steam page suggests that players will be able to upgradespecific skillsrelated to weapon types, as well as improveweapon formsusing special resources. It’s also likely that we’ll be able to upgrade other aspects likedodge windowsorparry timingas Kazer levels up.
Overall, it looks like players will be able to tailor Kazer to their preferred playstyle using a mix of weapons and abilities.
Exploration
WhileLost Soul Asideisn’t a fully open-world game, exploration still seems to play an important role. Each level or dimension will offer unique environments, and the trailers have shown that you’ll be using Arena’s traversal abilities—likegliding, creatingmid-air platforms, orwing-assisted movement—to explore these massive zones.
Although exploration hasn’t been heavily spotlighted in recent footage, the original reveal trailer showed a vast open area available for traversal. Given how far the game has come since then, we can’t be sure how much of that content remains, but it’s clear that exploration will matter.
It seems likely that you’ll gain resources, discover upgrades, and find secret bosses across these diverse dimensions.
What’s unclear at this point is how interconnected these zones are—will we be able to revisit areas, or is the game completely linear? We’ll have to wait and see, but hopefully, there will be some degree of backtracking or optional content for completionists.
Of course, every action RPG needs impressive boss battles—and this is whereLost Soul Asidelooks like it will truly shine. We’ve already seen massive screen-filling enemies, including interdimensional dragons and a water-elemental creature, all hinting at cinematic set pieces and challenging encounters.
Not all of our enemies will be monsters—some will behuman-like foes with unique powers, offering intense one-on-one duels. These fights are clearly inspired by the large-scale, cinematic clashes seen inFinal Fantasy, and the homage is unmistakable.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Lost Soul Asidehas intrigued fans ever since its initial reveal nearly a decade ago. Development began all the way back in 2014, and despite being built in Unreal Engine 4—not 5—it looks visually stunning. In fact, using UE4 might be a good thing, as many games built in UE5 currently suffer frommicrostuttersandhigh hardware demands, which this title may avoid.
While it might appearFinal Fantasy-esque at first glance—especially consideringFinal Fantasy XVI’s move toward real-time action—Lost Soul Aside aims to carve out its own identity withfluid combat, emotional storytelling, andinterdimensional world-building.
