Table of contents
Before you start the Ascension Mission
Before you load into the map, I recommend assembling a decent loadout. Bring your best weapon andensure the Ascension mission is active.
A Pack a Punch gun of at least level 2 is lovely as you’re heading into a Tier 3 zone right off the bat.Self Revives are useful, as the boss has a particularly devastating attack that will kill you almost instantly if caught off guard.

Thelarger the team size, the better. Enemy health scales with the number of players in your party, but your damage output should compensate for it.
Finally, it’s not essential, buta Scorcher is extremely usefulif you have one. You need to get around quickly during the mission, and the Scorcher offers the best way to do it.

If you’re playing catch-up with MWZ, it’s worth swatting up onhow to open Dark Ether Rifts.
I know you’re eager to head straight to the mission zone, but it’s a good idea to stock up on items before you head in. Once you’re satisfied, head toward Ascension in the Tier 3 zoneright in the dead center of the mapto begin the quest.

You’ll find an Aether Rift in a small building, which will take you to a new area. Vote to enter the Dark Ether, and you’ll be teleported inside after a load screen.
You’ll be standing in a purple city full of floating buildings and debris when you arrive. You canuse the launchers scattered across the areato quickly get around or a Scorcher if you bought one.

Confront the Entity
Your goal in this area is toConfront the Entity and defeat them in battle, but there are a few simple prerequisites.
Find a way to weaken the Entity
Before you may do anything, you must collect four Relics. Fortunately, they are pretty easy to find. There are four Obelisks inside the rift, and they are easily identifiable bythe orange spires of lightthey emit into the sky.
Each Relic is close to an Obelisk. The Relics aren’t hidden, so they should be easy to spot.

Cleanse the Relics
Once you have all four Relics, you cancleanse them at an Obeliskby interacting with them. When you initiate the Cleanse, you’ll be tasked tokill Zombies for Dr. Jansen. Many zombies will assault your position, and you must defeat them to progress in the mission.
Use decoysif you have them, as the zombies are relentless and will overrun you without decent equipment. The progress bar will fill as you defeat zombies, and the zombie onslaught will stop once the bar is full.
Regroup with Dr. Jansen
Dr Jansen will join you after you’ve defeated every zombie. She’ll task you with finding more relics identified withthe same yellow spires as before.
Initiate the cleanse and defeat the zombie horde as you did last time. Once you’ve cleansed the relics twice, you’ll activate the next part of the quest.
Ascend to the Tower to reach the Entity
Dr. Jansen will instruct you to Ascend the Tower. You can’t miss it, and it’s the largest building in the area. There are green rifts around the building, and you can use them to traverse the tower. Alternatively, you can use a Scorcher.
When you reach the roof, you’ll notice a path of islands in the sky above you, connected by launch pads. Use the launch pads to traverse the area and follow the path until you reach the floating Tanker.
The Tanker acts like a checkpoint before the boss battle. Unfortunately, you can’t enter and drag your friends in if they fall behind. All of you must be on the boatto enter the Entities arena.
Destroy the Entity
The Boss fight is epic andfeels oddly Witness-esqueif you play Destiny 2. The arena is made of floating islands, and you can use the launcher to quickly traverse them.
The Entity moves around the area and you can shoot the glowing orbs on her to deal damage. You don’t have to get too close, especially if you brought a long-range weapon.
There aren’t any mechanics to worry about, but you must be aware ofone particular attack that can hit an entire island. If you notice a red impact marker by your feet, it’s time to run and hop to another location.
Follow the Entity, shoot the orbs, and play safe if you take damage. Once the boss goes down, head to the Reward Rift marked on one of the islands.
Loot the Reward Rift
Don’t be fooled by the promise of rewards. The Entity returns for round twobefore you’re able to collect anything, and she has a brand new attack. She’s also invincible until you remove her shield.
Watch out for the laser. This is the Entity’s trump card, and it can drop you within a couple of seconds if it makes contact. This is where those Self Revives I mentioned earlier will come in handy, asthe beams are a little unpredictable.
Use the launchers to get close to the Entity, and Dr. Jansen will spawn on that same island.Defeat Zombies near her to fill the progress bar. Once complete, the Doctor will unleash an energy blast to remove the Entity’s shield.
This is your chance to deal damage. Shoot the orbs on the boss to deal damage, and repeat this process as you follow her around the arena.
You canshoot the orbs on the Entity’s handsto stop her attacking. There aren’t any mechanics to worry about, but the battle is relentless. There is aconstant stream of zombies and manglers to defeat, and her laser attack is a continuous threat.
With the boss defeated again, you can finally claim your reward from the portal.
Collect your reward (for real this time)
Collect your rewardfrom the Rift, and an Exit Rift will appear on the same island. Use it to extract from the Dark Ether. I won’t delve into spoilers, but a cutscene will play that will make you lore goblins drool.
The story of MWZ concludes, and the stage is set for the upcomingBlack Ops 6.
If you’re hungry for more story content, you may have to turn to the regular Call of Duty campaigns for now. Fortunately, some of them are surprisingly goodand worth playing if you can get hold of them.
