Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades Guide to Combos & Changes
TheDual Bladesare the weapon of choice for players who prefer anaggressive playstyleand always want to stay on the offensive when hunting monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds. TheDual Bladeshave the highest attack speed in the game with a relatively simple move set compared to otherweapons. This makes the Dual Blades one of the recommended weapons for new hunters looking to join the hunt.
InMonster Hunter Wilds, there are a few new additions to the move set of the Dual Blades, adding more combos and a new perfect evade mechanic. The overall feel and flow of using the Dual Blades is very similar to the previous games in the franchise and veterans should feel right at home using them in in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Dual Blades Key Mechanics
The core mechanic for Dual Blades are Demon and Archdemon Modes. You can go into Demon Mode when using the Dual Blades by pressingRT (Xbox) or R2 (Playstation). Demon Mode increases your Attack Speed and allows you to fill the Demon Gauge with your attacks. It also allows you to Perfect Dodge, as well as makes theBlade Dance: Y + B (Xbox) or Triangle + Circle (Playstation)attack available to you. Note that using Blade Dance will drain the Gauge, so attempt to avoid using it until you’ve filled it first via other attacks.
There are mainly two important things to keep in mind when utilizing Demon Mode. The first is, your stamina bar will constantly drain regardless of whether you are attacking or not, so you cannot stay in Demon Mode forever and you must exit it to regain stamina periodically. Secondly, once you’ve filled the Demon Gauge, your “Normal Mode” will change to what is called Archdemon Mode. You can tell you’ve filled the Demon Gauge by the change to its appearance rather than just solid yellow, and also because your hands will glow white.

Archdemon Mode is not really a seperate “Mode”, but is a rather a buff that once obtained, will apply when you are not in Demon Mode, until your Demon Gauge is emptied. This buff increases your Attack Speed, allows you to Perfect Dodge (just like you may in Demon Mode), allows you to performDemon Flurry Y + B (Xbox) or Triangle + Circle on Playstation, and allows you to peform theDemon Flurry Rush Combo. Essentially, Archdemon Mode allows you to do many of the things when not in Demon Mode that you would normally need to be in Demon Mode to do, but without the huge downside of having your stamina drain constantly. Although these modes are not new to the series, there are some great additions and changes to theDemon Mode and Archdemon Modeattacks which we’ll cover in just a minute.
Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades Combos
Basic Combo
The first combo is a series of slashes performing a basic combo.
The second is the Basic Combo for the Demon Mode.
The third is the Demon Flurry Rush Combo which has an added Double Roundslash attack during the Demon mode.
Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades Moveset & Changes
When inDemon Mode, you may performBlade Dance - Y + B (Xbox) or Triangle + Circle (Playstation)which performs a flurry of slashes. In previous games this attack locks you in place for the duration of the combo and leaves yourself wide open to monster attacks. InMonster Hunter Wilds, Blade Dance has been broken up into three different attacks where you can stop your combo or reposition as needed between each individual strike.
When inArchdemon Mode, you can perform a weaker version of Blade Dance calledDemon Flurry- Y + B (Xbox) or Triangle + Circle (Playstation), which is also split into two attacks much like theBlade Dance. By utilizing the Focus Mode, you can reposition yourself while facing the monster, letting you hop backwards or to the side providing you with the escape options you need, especially if you are out of stamina as using theDemon Flurryonly uses the Demon Gauge instead of the stamina bar.

The splitting ofBlade Danceof theDemon ModeandDemon Flurryof the Archdemon Mode allows hunters to mix and match the two attacks between each two modes. What this means, is after initiating theBlade Dance Iattack in Demon Mode and then switching to theArchdemon Mode- RT (Xbox) or R2 (Playstation), you will immediately follow up with the Demon Flurry counterpart of the attack upon switching without the need for additional inputs and switching back to Demon Mode after the attack will advance theBlade Dance combowith theBlade Dance IIattack so on and so forth.
So, by switching between theDemonandArchdemon modes, hunters can perform theUltimate Five attack combo finisher chainwhich takes a considerable amount of time similar to the Blade Dance of the old game. So be sure to execute this move, when there is a huge window of opportunity such when the monster is toppled, stunned or caught in a trap. Performing this whole combo will drain around half of yourDemon Gaugeso, verify you have enough resources before performing this particular combo.

Another cool addition to theDual Bladesis theperfect evade mechanic. Byevading- A (Xbox) or X (Playstation) a monster’s attack at the exact time just before it strikes, you will trigger a perfect evade which will negate the incoming damage and provide a buff known as the Demon Boost mode which lasts for twelve seconds causing the hunter to glow blue. This buff increases attack damage and also turns all of your dodges into damaging spin attacks. This newly added mechanic rewards players who excel at dodge timing. Perfect Evade can only be used while in Demon Mode or in Archdemon Mode.
TheFocus Strikegives theDual Bladeusers a very familiar looking attack much like the Demon Flight. TheFocus Strike: Turning Tide- RB (Xbox) or R1 (Playstation) while in focus mode, has the hunter bring down both of their blades before launching into the air and if the strike connects to a wound, the hunter will hook onto the monster and do a spinning blade dance which runs through the entire length of the monster. You can maximize the damage output using this attack by inflicting the most amount of wounds on the monster and then bursting them all simultaneously with this attack dealing copious amounts of damage.

Even though theFocus Strikeperforms theSpine Slash Attackyou can still perform theSpinning Mid-air Attackby dashing off the edge of a ledge of a cliff when you are in the Demon Mode. It can also destroy multiple wounds along the length of the monster’s body so learning to use this attack when possible will increase your damage output using the Dual Blades.
Performing mounting attacks using theDual Bladeswill not give you the Demon Bar build-up but it also won’t drain the Demon Bar, stopping it from depleting once you are already in the demon mode, making mounting attacks a useful tool for maintaining your gauge.
TheDual Bladeshave the shortest reach among all the weapons in the monster hunter games requiring the hunters to be in contact at point-blank range for the attacks to connect most of the time. But with the added changes to the combo finishers and the focus mode and utilizing theperfect evasion mechanic, experienced hunters will find even more success utilizing theDual Blades.
Final Tips
TheDual Bladesare weapons specifically made for hunters who prefer the aggressive playstyle and provide no option of blocking the monster’s attacks. As suchDual Bladeusers must be more proficient in reading attack patterns and evading compared to other players. Even though each attack’s damage is low, the damage output is substantial just from the sheer number of attacks the dual blades can dish out within a short amount of time.
When utilizing the dual blade, stamina management is paramount, and learning to manage stamina and the demon gauge between the two modes will lead hunters to more successful hunts.
Another important thing to keep track of is the sharpness of the weapon since you are hitting the monster most frequently compared to other weapons, the sharpness can go down fast. Thus, it is important to find the opening to sharpen your weapon between your combos to keep up your momentum.
Dual Blades are weapons that focus mainly on offense and as such if you want a secondary weapon option that provides a little more versatility, theSword & Shieldis an excellent choice as it is a of jack of all trades weapon, offering good mobility, offensive and defensive options.
Another good option is theInsect Glaivewhich will keep you on a similar flow of combat with its high mobility and ability to destroy parts with targeted kinsect strikes.
These secondary weapons will keep your flow of combat swift and agile without the need for slowing down.
In conclusion, the Dual Blades are a great starter weapon with an easy-to-approach moveset and are the perfect weapons for hunters seeking a very fast and agile weapon to deliver the monster a death by a thousand cuts.
