Five Nights at Freddy’sis a supernatural horror film set as a live-action adaptation of the original videogame series of the same name, created by Scott Cawthon. Most often called by its designated acronym, ‘FNAF’ was actually Cawthon’s last ditch attempt at creating a videogame, the creator planning to retire from the profession if it failed. By a stroke of fate, the complete opposite happened upon its debut in 2014. Prominent Youtuber ‘Markiplier’ brought the game into an unmatched public sphere by sharing videos of him playing the game on YouTube, and that was all it took. Soon every other gaming personality on the website participated in the sudden FNAF phenomenon, helping turn a surprisingly simple horror game into an actual franchise. The film adaptation was years in the making, as soon as one year after the game’s release. However, Cawthon was very particular about how the movie would be written, and pledged that it wouldn’t go into production until he was sure it hit every mark. This led to several development setbacks, with the reins being passed from one director to another, from Warner Bros to its new home at Blumhouse Productions.

With Emma Tammi at the helm and a script that finally met Cawthon’s expectations, production officially got underway, with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop put in charge of hand-crafting the enormous animatronics. So far, from what has been shown in the trailer, that includes the infamous quartet of Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy. There are also glimpses of Springtrap, the arch-villain of the original game series. Whether the animatronic count stops there remains to be seen, and we’ll likely have to wait for the theater premiere to know just how deep the film will take the lore.

New Photos Show a Life-Sized Freddy Fazbear Ready For Murde-..Err Hugs

Ahead of the film’s release this October, Blumhouse has graciously decided to share some behind-the scenes photos of the terrifyingly life-sized Freddy Fazbear animatronic suit in all its glory. The suit itself is evidently wearable, two of the photos showing Freddy actor Justin Michael Terry trying on the look, wiring visible underneath. It provides some visual insight into how they plan to operate Freddy and Co, likely a mixture of actual human acting, robotic controls for the head, and of course CGI to meld it all together.

Five Nights at Freddy’sscares its way into theaters just in time for Halloween on October 27. Check out the latest trailer for the film below.
