Paramount still “owes” Amanda Seyfried money 21 years after Mean Girls
Get in, losers… we’re going to ask for our money back. In the latest installment of Actors on Actors, Amanda Seyfried revealed she’s still waiting on money from Paramount after 2004 hitMean Girls.
Frankly, Variety’s Actors on Actors is the series that keeps on giving. We’re a few episodes deep into the new series, with Amanda Seyfried and Adam Brody paired up for an interview. Unsurprisingly, the subject of Mean Girls came up – the 2004 hit that propelled Seyfried to stardom.

Alongside Lindsay Lohan,Rachel McAdams, and Lacey Chabert, theTina Feycult classic has gone on to have a life of its own, adapted into a Broadway musical in 2017 (and then amovie musical, obviously).
But 21 years after Paramount released it, Seyfried has revealed the studio still “owes her money,” and for a surprising reason.

In the interview, Seyfried confirmed Paramount “owes her money” for using her likeness in subsequent Mean Girls merch.
Beginning with Brody asking if she’s rewatched the film, Seyfried replied, “No, I haven’t. It’s on often enough, though. And you know what? I love it. I really love seeing my face on people’s T-shirts. I mean, I’m a little resentful because Paramount still owes me some money.”

When Brody responded asking if she meant the T-shirts, Seyfried clarified, “For the likeness. Every store sells Mean Girls T-shirts with our faces on [them]. Photographs!
“Is it because I was 17 and dumb?” she mused afterwards. Paramount has since been contacted for comment, but has not responded.

As you might have guessed, Seyfried doesn’t have any bad feelings about the movie. In October 2023, the cast – minus McAdams – had a mini reunion in a Walmart commercial, with Seyfried resuming her role as Karen Smith.

“It was sort of like, channeling a little bit of Some Like It Hot, Marilyn Monroe,” shetoldGQ in March. “I just held onto that so tight, because I felt like that was the reason I got the role, and I didn’t trust my instincts so much as having a clear idea of who I thought this person was.”
Fast-forward to 2025, and you may catch Seyfried in Long Bright River, and Brody in Nobody Wants This.
