Sam Raimihas said he would “love” to return to the Marvel Universe to directSpider-Man 4. But there are certain details the director would need to figure out first. Raimi’sSpider-Mantrilogy (starring Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker) helped usher in the cinematic phenomenon that is the superhero genre.Spider-ManandSpider-Man 2are still considered to be among the best superhero movies ever made, and gave fans incredible on-screen iterations of the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) and Doctor Otto Octavious (Alfred Molina). AlthoughSpider-Man 3was discernibly the weakest film in the trilogy - featuring a questionable reworking of the beloved villain Venom - it still left fans desperate for more.
Niw, speaking toThe Wrap, Sam Raimi gave those fans hope when he said he’d be open to returning for a fourthSpider-Manmovie. Raimi did make it clear that he doesn’t “have any plans,” but went on to say, “but I would love it!” The acclaimed director then said how he would go about producing a fourth installment, and the main narrative challenges he would face.

“I think if we were to make a fourth ‘Spider-Man’ film, we’d probably have to figure out the journey that Tobey Maguire his character would be going on, and what obstacles he had to overcome to achieve that growth personally. And I hope that the villain would be chosen based on a representation of that obstacle.”
Spider-Man 4 Is Not Officially Confirmed…but Rumors Continue to Circulate
Spider-Man
After being bitten by a radioactive spider, Peter Parker’s body chemistry is mutagenically altered in that he can scale walls and ceilings, and he develops a “spider-sense” that warns him of approaching danger. Adopting the name “Spider-Man”, Peter first uses his newfound powers to make money, but after his uncle is murdered at the hands of a criminal Peter failed to stop, he swears to use his powers to fight the evil that killed his uncle.
While it’s exciting to know that Sam Raimi is thinking about a fourth film, it is still far from a definite confirmation. In the past, Raimi has been very upfront about the lack of an official greenlight for the movie. Speaking toCBRearlier this April, Raimi was asked about the rumors regarding himself and Tobey Maguire formerly working together on a new installment.

“I did read that, but I’m not actually working on it yet. I mean, Marvel and Columbia are so successful with current Spider-Man [movies], and the track there, and I don’t know that they’re going to go back to me, and say, ‘Well, folks, we can also tell that story!'”
Spider-Man 4: Sam Raimi & Tobey Maguire Reunion is Possible, According to Thomas Haden Church
The Sandman villain actor Thomas Haden Church believes Sam Raimi & Tobey Maguire will do Spider-Man 4 film.
While there have always been rumors (mainly out of optimistic desperation from the fan base) about Raimi returning forSpider-Man 4, speculation was reignited in 2021 when Tobey Maguire reprized his iteration of Peter Parker in the MCU forSpider-Man: No Way Home, alongside Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield. The film brought Maguire and Garfield’s respective Peter Parkers to the MCU after Tom Holland’s Spider-Man shattered the multi-verse after messing with Dr. Strange’s magic. All of which meansSpider-Man 4would likely take place in Raimi’sSpider-Manuniverse, after the alternate Peter Parkers are returned to their original worlds at the end of the film.

It’s been some time since Raimi brought his signature directorial style toSpider-Man, but he has since returned to the superhero genre, and is rumored to return again in the future. Raimi’s last superhero outing was 2022’sDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which saw the director incorporate his horror background into a multiverse jumping story. Alongside a return forSpider-Man 4, rumors are also suggesting that Raimi willreturn to the MCU to directAvengers: Secret Wars, which is currently slated for release in 2027. However, nothing has yet been confirmed.
Sam Raimi’sSpider-Mantrilogy is available to stream on Disney+.
