The upcoming Sonic mobile game invites players to enter a twisted toy world created by the notorious Dr. Eggman. Players will take control of toy figures to compete in 32-player battle royale challenges, racing against each other to collect the most rings. In the end, there can only be one winner.
The game will feature iconic characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, like Shadow, Vector, Rouge, Silver and Big the Cat. To add to the fun, players will be able to customize their own avatars for a unique and thrilling experience. One of the fun customizable options shown in the trailer was a pirate’s costume that is sure to hook you into the game.

A New Venture
Developed by SEGA in collaboration with Rovio, the game marks its first title to be released jointly between the two companies. This is also the first multiplayer action game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. SEGA aims to further expand the presence of the Sonic the Hedgehog brand on the global mobile market with Rovio’s expertise and experience in mobile marketing. For those who don’t know, Rovio is the company behind the infamous mobile game franchise Angry Birds, which has expanded its reach within the entertainment market with its multiple titles on mobile and its expansion into the film industry withThe Angry Birds MovieandThe Angry Birds Movie 2. Rovio also worked with Sonic for a crossover event back in March of this year.

Fans might see the similarities to another popular multiplayer action game called Fall Guys. Coincidentally, Fall Guys collaborated with the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise back in August 2022, as it had a five-day event with characters from Sonic Adventure. There are even more similarities, as players need to score points by collecting rings and trying to survive to the next round. With this being said, it is exciting to see the franchise taking their own take on the multiplayer genre and creating an experience that is sure to be a hit for mobile players.
If you want to feel the need for speed, SEGA is having a closed beta test that will run from May 24 to 26. Sign-ups are available right now via their official website. Sonic Rumble is set to launch on iOS and Android this winter.
