Not since 2003’sFreddy vs. Jasonhave we seen twohorror iconsgoing at it in the same movie. That all changes in 2016, when themalevolent spiritsfrom bothJu-Onand Ringu climb into the ring together. And we have the first teaser trailer from this J-horror treat.

TheJ-horrorcraze began in the early Aughts, and we were inundated with plenty of shocking thrillers from overseas. But perhaps the two biggest entries in this genre, which are still going strong today, are 1998’s Ringu and 2004’sJu-On. Now, the central characters in those two films are going to clash inSadako Vs Kayako, which arrives in Japan next year.

Sadako Vs Kayakoactually started out as an April Fool’s Day joke that went viral. Now it is becoming a reality. Both movie franchises are similar in that they revolve around a scary curse and anevil spirit. They have both gone onto spawn numerous sequels and stateside remakes. But this might be the ultimate entry, and god only knows when someone will start production on adomestic remake, but we’re sure it won’t take long.

Kadokawa and NBCUniversal Japan have teamed up forSadako Vs Kayako. Kôji Shiraishi, best known for the movies Gurotesuku and Noroi, is directing. Mizuki Yamamoto, seen in such Japanese cult classics as Close Range Love and Black Butler, will be the actor caught between these two warring spirits. Though, we’re not quite sure of the plot just yet.

While there are currently no plans to releaseSadako Vs Kayakoin the States, it will get a 4D release in Japan this summer. This fun teaser mashes up both franchises nicely. We get to see the iconic Kayako hand as it comes out of the infamous well that belongs to Sadako. It might not beGodzilla Vs Kong, but it will have to do while we await that epic, coming in 2020. Sadly, who knows when we’ll get to seeSadako Vs Kayakoin the states. We will be getting the third sequelRingsthis Spring. In the meantime, check out this spooky trailer.
