If there’s one universal complaint about theNintendo Switch 2, it’s that the battery life in handheld mode is atrocious. No matterwhat I’m playing, I’m lucky to eke out two hours per charge, which is a major issue for me as I frequently bring my console with me to theme parks on the weekends. However, after just one 90 minute line, I’m already atlow battery, which is a major bummer, as playing Balatro and Mario Kart is my favorite way to stay occupied during the busy summer season in Orlando.

However, I was recently able to check out the Belkin Charging Case for Nintendo Switch 2 and I have to say it has provided an easy solution to my issues using the Switch 2 on the go.

Price, availability, and specs

It’s not the cheapest out there, but it’ll get the job done

At first glance, the Belkin Charging Case for Nintendo Switch 2 looks like any other case, with a sturdy protective body and simple, single-color outer design. And on the inside, this case includes modest features, including a small mesh pocket for stashing small accessories like cables, a flap with storage for 12 game cartridges, and a hidden AirTag compartment that allows you to discreetly keep a tracker inside your case.

But of course, the selling point for this charging case is the actual charging component, which is not actually built into the case, but actually comes from a removable10,000mAh battery pack that sits nestled in its own compartment, secured with a strap. The power bank’s capacity is just enough to charge the Switch 2’s 5,220mAh cell twice as long as you’re not running it dead each time, and it helpfully has a display that lets you know exactly how much juice you’ve got left. And if you find yourself in need of power for your phone or your Kindle, the removable power bank features 2 USB-C outputs that can be used for whatever you like.

What I liked about the Belkin Charging Case for Nintendo Switch 2

A capable battery in a soft and secure package

As mentioned previously, it was hard for me to consider the Nintendo Switch 2 a truly portable gaming console with such poor battery life, but thankfully this charging case has helped me go a full day at a theme park without having to hunt for an outlet. After running out my initial charge, I was able to put my console in this case, and after 30 minutes, I was greeted with a 100% charge on my screen and 53% battery capacity remaining. After another few rounds of Balatro in a sweaty outdoor line, my Switch 2 was ready for another top-off and the power bank was once again able to get me back to 100% in less than an hour.

On the protection front, this case is very secure with a strongly reinforced bottom that will keep your Switch 2 protected against drops, bumps, and in my case, being shoved repeatedly into half a dozen lockers. The soft, velvety interior is surprisingly tight around the console, and despite running around a theme park all day my Switch 2 never moved while it was in the case and didn’t suffer so much as a smudge during my day out.

What I didn’t like about the Belkin Charging Case for Nintendo Switch 2

A tight fit

Though I prefer to keep my Switch 2 naked (except for a screen protector) a lot of folks use protective skins, hard-shell cases, joystick caps and more to customize their consoles. And if you fall into the latter category, unfortunately this could present a little bit of an issue, as this form-fitting travel case has zero wiggle room for consoles that are anything other than standard sized.

Another issue that some gamers may run into with the Belkin Charging Case for Nintendo Switch 2 is the top half of the case has a little bit of give when compared to the much sturdier bottom and can easily be smushed in with very little force. If you keep a lot of stuff in your bag, you’ll want to be mindful that you’re not putting too much pressure on the top part of the case, as that could potentially put pressure on the screen, particularly if you have small items or accessories in the mesh pouch. I never ran into issues with this myself, but I was carrying a medium-sized bag while testing this out, so if you have a smaller purse or mini-backpack it may be worth getting a smaller, non-charging case as you’ll need to be mindful of how much pressure you put on the top of this unit.

Should you buy the Belkin Charging Case for Nintendo Switch 2?

A solid charging case with protection and power

Though it’s not the cutest or most aesthetic-looking Switch 2 case, I found the Belkin Charging Case for Nintendo Switch 2 to be a perfect traveling companion, offering amazing protection for my device, and solid charging that kept my Switch 2 going all day. As long as you’ve got plenty of space on your bag (and keep your Switch 2 free of skins or hard-shell clip-on cases), this charging case is an easy recommendation, and for $70 you’ll finally be able to take your Switch 2 on the go without worrying as much about battery life.

Why I’m begging Nintendo for a Switch 2 dock with no TV connection

With the Switch 2 now days away from launch, I’m pleading with Nintendo to engineer a simple and affordable charging cradle – one without TV output.
